Youth Support Specialist

About this Position

Salary Range: Starting at $42,000

The Youth Support Specialist provides underserved youth in accessing crucial support for education, career goals, financial stability, mental health services, and more. The incumbent works under the direction of the Connected Lane County Project Coordinator.

The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with youth to help them overcome barriers, works well in a team setting, and brings a creative approach to solving problems. 


  • Serve as the case manager for assigned youth. 
    • Conduct intake for eligible youth and complete needs assessment and support plan. 
    • Support youth in accessing post-secondary options by providing support with FAFSA and scholarship applications, connecting with university or community college campus tours, and campus services for new incoming students.  
    • Assist youth in accessing workforce development opportunities such as apprenticeships, internships, and job shadows. 
    • Assist in developing and maintaining industry contacts and developing work experience placements based on identified youth interests.  
    • Assist youth in accessing employment services including resume and interview preparation, completing job applications, and developing general employment skills. 
    • Assist youth in accessing social and government resources as appropriate.  
    • Support youth in accessing or attending community events focused on career exploration or post-secondary opportunities.  
    • Assist youth in accessing services and supports to develop life skills such as financial literacy, time management, and cooperation. 
  • Collect service data for reports regarding activities and to monitor the continuous improvement of the program, as assigned. 
  • Attend team meetings and training as required. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience

  • Associate of Arts Degree or more than two years of advanced education/experience in the field of education is required.
  • At least one year of successful experience working in a public school or community setting with underserved youth related to employment readiness and/or transition to post-secondary education opportunities. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of education, health, and available social services is preferred.   
  • Well-developed communication skills (both oral and written) and courtesy are required to develop and maintain positive relationships with diverse populations of youth, internal, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively engage with diverse individuals in a culturally appropriate manner. 
  • Initiative and ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Ability to creatively problem-solve and try new approaches.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite is required.      
  • A valid Oregon driver’s license or ability to obtain one by the date of hire is required. 
  • A First Aid/CPR card is preferred.  
  • Spanish language skills are preferred.
