Come work with animals part-time!

Website Opportunity Barks

Opportunity Barks, a dog daycare/boarding facility located in Pleasant Hill, is looking to add a new part-time employee to our staff! The ideal candidate has a love of dogs (obviously!), coupled with a strong work ethic and the ability to keep a clear head under pressure.

Responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning. Lots of cleaning.
  • Picking up dog messes, mopping, vacuuming, washing dishes…”Work Hard, Play Hard” may be a cliché, but it’s never more true than when surrounded by adorable muddy dogs!
  • Handling large groups of dogs of all shapes and sizes while exercising extreme patience and vigilance.
  • Preventing and breaking up altercations between dogs is an integral part of this job, so alertness is a must.
  • Frequent customer interaction: greeting clients during drop-off and pick-up times and answering clients’ questions as needed.
  • Did we already mention cleaning? It’s definitely important enough to mention twice!
  • Miscellaneous: Preparing meals, setting up suites for lunchtime and bedtime, petting/cuddling dogs, dressing them up for holiday photo shoots… : )
  • The position is 27 hours a week, and we are currently still figuring out the schedule, so someone with flexible availability is ideal! While we don’t know the exact hours, all staff members work two double shifts a week (first shift is from 7:00am to noon, and second shift is from 3:00 to 6:30pm), either a morning or afternoon shift on Friday, and one weekend morning.
  • Candidates must be okay with working holidays, as they are extremely busy times for us! We switch off, though, so no one employee has to work all holidays (and holiday overtime is given on major holidays!).

Position pays $14.25/hour to start, with raises given intermittently throughout the year.

After the initial interview stage, in order to see if it’s a good fit for everyone, we have potential employees shadow a shift for a couple of hours so they can get a hands-on understanding of a normal workday and decide if this position is right for them.

We utilize positive reinforcement training and clickers in our daily routine, so anyone applying for the job must be comfortable with learning these methods and then using them in practice with the dogs. We don’t offer official dog training through our facility, but the daycare is owned by a dog trainer and we are always striving to work on building at least foundational manners with our dogs!

We’re ideally looking for someone who’s seeking long-term employment, because building trust and a strong relationship with clients–both human and canine alike!–is essential. Previous dog experience is preferred; however, a strong work ethic and an ability to work within a team is much more important than related experience, so hard workers and team players are encouraged to apply!

If interested, please respond to this posting with a resume and a short paragraph about yourself (ex. why you think you’d be a good fit for the job, some background info, a little bit about your availability/current schedule, what you like to do in your spare time…anything to help us get to know you a bit and also get a feel for why you would work well in this position!).

We look forward to hearing from you!

**We are located out in Pleasant Hill, which is anywhere from a 10 to 25 minute drive from most nearby areas. Sometimes people don’t look up directions/driving distance until the actual day of their interview, so please look us up in advance so you know what you’re getting into! For what it’s worth, it is a very nice, scenic drive out to the country, if you’re into that kind of thing : ) **

**PLEASE DO NOT CALL OR DROP-IN. EVEN TO CHECK ON YOUR APPLICATION, PLEASE RESPOND VIA EMAIL ONLY**

Application Question(s):

  • Please list a few reasons why you think you’d be a good fit for this position!
  • Are there are any days/times during the week where you would be unavailable to work?
