Position Overview:
The City of Springfield Police Department is seeking a custodian to perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance for the Springfield Justice Center. This position works independently in secure office spaces and buildings that are closed to the public.

Summary of Essential Duties:
•    Cleans floors, carpets, windows, walls and fixtures
•    Vacuums and steam cleans carpets
•    Waxes, strips, buffs and polishes floors
•    Cleans and disinfects restroom facilities and replenishes supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels
•    Responds to urgent situations, such as spills, that require quick action
•    Orders cleaning supplies and equipment and maintains an appropriate stock at all times
•    Uses various cleaning agents, chemicals, and solvents in a safe manner
•    Operates and maintains equipment such as vacuums and floor waxing machine
•    Collects and removes trash from a building or space
•    Makes minor repairs as necessary, including tasks such as changing light bulbs and fixing leaks
•    Notifies supervisor when major repairs are required
•    Maintains a level of security in a building, such as locking doors, storing keys, and using access codes for restricted areas and rooms
•    Performs outdoor upkeep as necessary, including picking up leaves, shoveling snow, power washing, and maintaining entrances and walkways
•    Set-up and take-down of meeting rooms and events

Classifications & Pay Scales

Education/ Experience:
•    High school diploma or GED, and 1-2 years of custodial experience or other relevant experience.

Preferences may be given based on qualifications and experience:
•    Previous experience using floor waxing machine
•    Previous experience working in a secured facility

Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education and experience may be considered qualifying.

The Custodian position will have access in the Springfield Justice Center and must obtain CJIS certification and clearance.  Please note that in order to acquire CJIS certification, the individual cannot have any felony convictions, and any other criminal record is at the discretion of the certifying agency.  CJIS requires finger printing as well.

Physical Requirements:
•    Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
•    Stand for long periods of time in order to perform cleaning tasks
•    Repeatedly bend or stoop to clean
•    Climb ladders
•    Wear personal protective equipment, as necessary

Selection Process:
