General Statement of Duties:: The City of Eugene Library, Recreation, & Cultural Services Department’s Recreation Program provides accessible recreation opportunities for all ages in a fun, safe, and positive environment.  We are seeking energetic, safety and service minded individuals to add to our team.  If you are interested in working in a dynamic environment in a challenging job that allows you to further develop your skills, we look forward to your application.

The following temporary positions will be filled from this job posting:

  • Building Coordinator – $12.75 – $14.66 Hourly
  • Preschool Assistant – $12.75 – $14.66 Hourly
  • Recreation Activity Coordinator – $13.00 – $18.20 Hourly
  • Recreation Activity Leader – $12.75 – $14.66 Hourly
  • Recreation Instructor* – $12.75 – $24.06 Hourly

*Recreation instructors may be hired at the Instructor 1, Instructor 2, or Instructor 3 level depending on qualifications and experience. See the complete job descriptions for requirements and duties at each level.

Location: The City of Eugene Library, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department operates multiple facilities located around Eugene. Work location will depend on position and assignment. For a complete list of facilities, please click here.

Hours :Varied depending on assignment, approximately 3-19 hours/week depending on recreation schedule. Schedule may include weekends and evenings.

Building Coordinator
Responsible for supervision of center activities, patron safety, operation of computerized registration system, public relations, reception and clerical duties, and minor maintenance of facility. For a complete description of duties, see this job description.

Preschool Assistant
The Preschool Assistant position assists with implementation of recreation programs; coordinates and teaches day-to-day activities; provides a safe environment and promotes and encourages inclusion and provides a positive experience for patrons. Recreation Activity Coordinator
Assists with the implementation of recreation programs at the community center, school, or other program sites; coordinates and teaches daily recreation activities to youth. For a complete description of duties, see this job description.

Recreation Activity Leader
Assists with implementation of recreation programs; coordinates and teaches day-to-day activities; provides a safe environment and promotes and encourages inclusion and provides a positive experience for patrons. For a complete description of duties, see this job description.

Recreation Instructor
Instructs groups between preschool age and seniors in courses such as: fitness, music, arts, martial arts, gymnastics, dance, science, cuisine, educational workshops, wellness, gardening, computers, and consumer issues. This position may be filled at the Instructor 1, Instructor 2, or Instructor 3 level depending on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications: Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. All positions

  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Some assignments may require a valid Oregon driver’s license or, the ability to obtain by date of hire. If driving is an essential job function, the candidate must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City’s standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).

Building Coordinator
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. Preschool Assistant
Three months of experience (full-time equivalent) working, volunteering or training in one of the areas listed below or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. Possession of, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire of a Food Handler’s permit.

  • Work/volunteer experience in a Recreation setting
  • Childcare or babysitting experience
  • Customer service experience

Recreation Activity Coordinator
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, supplemented by 1 year (full-time equivalency) experience of recreation program planning and or coordination in a certified child care facility, youth center, or recreation agency or organization. For more information, see this job description.

Three months of verifiable experience (full-time equivalent) working, volunteering or training in one of the areas listed below or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.

Recreation Instructor
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. This position may be filled at the Instructor 1, Instructor 2, or Instructor 3 level depending on qualifications and experience. Selection Process: Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training. The selection process varies according to the position and can include such things as screening of supplemental questionnaires, written or skill tests, ability or fitness tests, interviews, and assessment processes. In addition, background investigations and records checks may be required. Applicants selected to continue in the process will be notified within two-three weeks after the posting deadline. Some positions also require applicants to have a psychological evaluation and/or physical examination and a drug test prior to employment. Marijuana use is evaluated consistent with current state law regulations.
